Moosehead Manufacturing Company

Moosehead Manufacturing, located in Monson and Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, was founded in 1947 by brothers John and Tolford Durham. Tolford, an independent woodsman out of Belfast, Maine, saw the plant on one of his journeys to the north and noticed that it was for sale. Seeing the opportunity that the structure offered, he went back to his brother, John, then an executive at the Diamond Match Company, and the two decided to purchase the vacant mill. Employing about forty people, they began making chair and table sets and, eventually, moved into the case goods market.
