In Southeast Alaska, The Chatham School District serves an area of approximately 43,000 square miles stretching from Angoon, on Admiralty Island in the South, to Klukwan, beyond Haines, in the North. The district is composed of four schools in separate communities. Angoon lies on Admiralty Island. Tenakee Springs is on Chichagof Island. Gustavus lies on the mainland near the entrance to Glacier Bay. The village of Klukwan lies 23 miles North of Haines. The communities are accessible by Ferry and/or -plane. The schools vary in enrollment with about 112 students currently enrolled in Angoon grades K-12, 13 in Tenakee Springs, 48 in Gustavus and about 44 in Klukwan. The overall operation of the Chatham District is under elected leadership of a five person school
