Right from the outset of proposals for regeneration in for Elephant and Castle, Southwark Council has been committed to putting Heygate residents first. We have run an extensive programme of events, exhibitions, market research and newsletters on the estate since 2003, and have continued to work closely with the Heygate tenants and residents association. These approaches have helped us to shape a rehousing offer for Heygate that reflects their wish to stay living in Elephant and Castle, as well as their desire for high quality new homes. The regeneration proposals, combined with the council's large land holdings, present a rare opportunity to build new homes in the Elephant and Castle area, in partnership with housing
