Robe is an unincorporated joint venture which is 53% owned by Rio Tinto, a world leader in mining. Other joint venture partners are Mitsui Iron Ore Development P/L (33%), Nippon Steel Australia P/L (10.5%) and Sumitomo Metal Australia P/L (3.5%). In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, the company operates two mines - Mesa J, near the town of Pannawonica and West Angelas, approximately 100 km west from the town of Newman. A dedicated rail system transports the iron ore to a port facility at Cape Lambert. Robe produces lump and fines ore through conventional open-pit mining methods and is recognised as one of the most cost effective, consistent and reliable suppliers of iron ore in the ( www.roberiver.com )
