In 1948, Stright-MacKay was founded as a boat building firm in Pictou, Nova Scotia, and quickly developed a solid reputation for constructing superior yachts and commercial vessels. Three decades of growth would follow, including a major expansion that saw the company open a 100-berth marina for the local pleasure boat market, as well as a small retail outlet for commercial fishing supplies. Despite this success, the company decided to cease boat building operations in 1982, due to the sinking popularity of wooden boats. Fortunately, over the same period, we had the foresight to begin a distribution business to leverage the demand for marine equipment products and supplies -- a growing trend that signalled the best opportunity for long-term
